Empowering Vulnerable Families

Our Story

About Precious Children Foundation

Precious Children Foundation (PCF) was registered in 2016, but the Children of Prisoners project was initiated in 2014 by Shaji Varghese with the support of Prison Fellowship India, a registered charitable society based in Kottayam, Kerala. Since 2016, PCF has been affiliated with PFI, collaborating on the project until 2022. Initially, the program supported 100 children in Maharashtra, whose parents were incarcerated in prisons across Nasik, Taloja, Thane, Kalyan, Kolhapur, Alibaug, and Pune. By 2015, the number of children served increased to 300. However, the program faced challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to the cessation of PFI support in 2021. Despite this setback, PCF continued the Children of Prisoners Project with a smaller number of children in 2022 and 2023.

The Precious Children Foundation, a registered Charitable Trust(E-10099/16/Thane) is dedicated to assisting vulnerable individuals affected by the criminal justice system. The foundation’s primary focus is on the children of prisoners, prisoners, ex-prisoners, and crime victims. Their efforts extend to addressing challenges related to hunger and poverty, education, health, mental well-being, and overall welfare. Through direct support and aid, the foundation aims to facilitate the smooth reintegration of families into society.
Emphasizing a holistic approach to well-being, societal inclusion, and providing a safe space for children impacted by incarceration, the organization employs a multifaceted strategy. This involves offering psychological counseling, reconciliation, visitation programs, and support for both incarcerated individuals and their families. The foundation serves as a compassionate bridge, tackling the intricate challenges associated with incarceration and crime by providing comprehensive and steadfast support.
Troubling statistics reveal a cycle of crime perpetuation among children of incarcerated parents, with a global impact of over 14 million affected children, over one million in India alone. While most children in this situation maintain normal behaviors, many require additional academic support. The Children of Prisoners’ Programme (CPP), launched in 2014 with Prison Fellowship India, aimed to assist 100 children but expanded to 300 in 2015. Despite challenges and setbacks in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the end of support from Prison Fellowship India, the Precious Children Foundation (PCF) continued its work, aiding total 1805 children by 2014 to 2023. The CPP Project’s enduring commitment, despite obstacles, has provided crucial assistance and opportunities for growth. A dedicated female volunteer, through calls, visits, counseling, and financial aid, has transformed isolated families, highlighting the transformative power of human connection. The initiative underscores the importance of community engagement and empathetic assistance in fostering resilience and overall well-being.
